At times is is good to be a bit careful with advices. I mail the Hartman mods to people every week, and you are the first person I hear complain about the new sound. But you were obviously looking for another sound.
Also, it is not so that every bike runs better without the white spacer ! Like several other forum members, I also put mine back in, because the bike worked better that way. Many buy bikes second hand, and there sure are many different sizes of mainjets put into these carbs allready.
So -first check what you have before trying any modifications. And the first thing to do is to check the colour of your sparkplug - if it is beige in the center you can't do any improvements, the bike runs perfectly.
